in situ

A few weeks ago I spent a cold morning photographing a dark and dusty historic interior hidden in the bushlands of Central Victoria.
The Archbold Gold Treatment Works is protected by Heritage Victoria and is a site of historic significance to the gold mining history of Victoria. It was built in 1884 by Jeremiah Archbold who operated it as an assay and metallurgical business.  Jeremiah died in  1917 and the works continued to be run by his sons Herbert and Harry.  By the  late 1980s the treatment works was closed and everything left as it was. The family  guarded their methods with secrecy and did not discard anything . What is then left all these years later is an incredible trove of in situ artefacts.
The images I took will be archived  for future research.  Here are some of my favourites.
Assay /əˈseɪ,ˈaseɪ/noun assay
1. the testing of a metal or ore to determine its ingredients and quality.

Here in Part II of my recent trip to Greece,  I take you on a quick tour on the mainland, notably the Peloponnese. Worn Venetian facades, medieval cobbled paths,  pastel sunrises and water absolutely everywhere.

I recently returned from a six week trip visiting the Motherland...Greece. It had been nineteen years since I was last there. Of course a lot had changed but so much was just as I remembered it.  Here , in the first of three parts, I have selected a series of images that form a general snapshot of my trip and a bit of a lead up to what the subsequent posts will feature.

I spent last weekend learning and practising the art of photogravure at the wonderful Baldessin Press Studio.  Set in the beautiful magical bushlands of St Andrews this was the most idealic art retreat and I came away so so incredibly inspired. Thank you to my wonderful teacher Silvi Glattauer and to Tess Edwards and Lloyed Godman for your generous hospitality. Can't wait to return!

Although I don't seem to carry my camera everywhere these days I did take a few pictures on a recent trip to Sydney.

Dating back to 1915, the Hotel Palisade in Millers Point was once the working man's pub. Recently redesigned with a nice consideration to the hotel's history.

Although the main reason for my visit to the Art Gallery of New South Wales was the  Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera exhibition, I enjoyed getting a close look at Sidney Long (Flamingoes 1902) and Frederick McCubbin (Self portrait, 1886).

And my favourite character from Homer's Odyssey...Circe (Betram Mackennal c. 1902)
